How to Choose a Scaffolding Company

Check licences and insurance

A reputable scaffolding company should hold appropriate state or territory scaffolding licences and carry public liability insurance. For commercial jobs, check they have relevant safe work method statements and risk assessments.

Get a detailed written quote

Your quote should specify the number of elevations, scaffold height, hire period, what is included in the erection/dismantle price, and any additional charges for extended hire, permits, or shrink-wrap. Avoid vague per-job pricing.

Coordinate trades to share the hire period

The most effective way to reduce scaffolding costs is to have all trades that need scaffold access lined up to work consecutively. One erection and dismantle serving multiple trades is far cheaper than multiple separate scaffold hires.

Confirm access and ground conditions

Before the scaffolder quotes, provide accurate information about site access (gate widths, slopes, parking), ground conditions (concrete, soil, gravel), and any overhead hazards like power lines. Surprises on erection day add cost.

Ask about inspection and modification

Confirm the scaffolder inspects the scaffold after erection and provides a scaffold tag or handover certificate. Ask about their process for modifications during the hire period if your trades need access points changed.

Understand the hire period and overrun charges

Most quotes include an initial hire period (1–2 weeks). Confirm the weekly rate for extensions beyond this period. If your project timeline is uncertain, negotiate a favourable weekly overrun rate upfront.
