What is a back-to-back air conditioning installation?

The indoor unit and outdoor unit sit on opposite sides of the same wall with a short pipe run between them. It is the cheapest configuration: labour alone runs $600 to $1,200 for a straightforward install, and every metre of piping beyond 3 metres adds about $100. Long runs, double-storey installs and tight access are what push a quote toward the top of the $1,200 to $4,500 band. Tip: if you can choose the room layout, put the unit on an external wall and save real money.
