Colorbond or timber fence: which costs less over time?
Timber is cheaper upfront at $75 to $120 per metre against Colorbond's $85 to $150, but timber needs staining or oiling and typically lasts 15 to 20 years, while Colorbond needs nothing and generally outlasts it. On a sloping block, Colorbond's stepped panels can add cost, so quotes converge. Aluminium at $150 to $350 per metre is a different tier for pools and frontages. Tip: on a shared boundary, remember your neighbour pays half, which often settles the material argument quickly.
